Truth or Dare? (2018) Review

Here is a movie that wasn’t well received, but I still enjoyed it. Ending Explained, Kill Count, Dead Meat Podcast.

A group of college students take a trip to Mexico for Spring Break where they meet a random guy and play a game of truth or dare with him. They soon discover that failure to follow through results in some pretty disastrous consequences.

I have to admit, these kids kind of had it coming. They follow a stranger that one of them met in a bar to an abandoned church in the middle of nowhere. They were just asking for trouble. Sometimes it can be really entertaining to watch a bunch of teens do stupid things and get killed for it. It’s fine, they’re not real people.

The facial effects in the movie are quite good, I thought. Kind of disturbing. It was a good way to tell when it was a character’s turn. That and the fact that they say “truth or dare?”.

I know that the main girl in it was in Pretty Little Liars (which I’ve never watched), and the guy is from the Teen Wolf series (I’ve never watched that either), but I don’t know any of the other actors. I think the only character I actually liked in it was Penelope, and I can’t remember why. She seems the nicest?

The ending was kind of mean spirited, but strangely clever at the same time. It really does show just how much our lives are impacted by social media and the internet. The power of YouTube, I guess.

I think the movie is decent enough if you don’t have high expectations. The premise is interesting, but it falls slightly flat with its writing and characters. It’s garbage, but it’s entertaining garbage.
