This is Tim Burton's CGI remake of his 1984 short film with the same name. This movie is full of references to horror and 50s B-movies. That's why this review is going to be in-depth and long. You have been warned. Young Victor Frankenstein is an aspiring filmmaker and scientist. His parents, Edward and Susan … Continue reading Frankenweenie (2012) Review *WARNING: SPOILERS*

(August 25, 1958)
Born Timothy Walter Burton in Burbank, California.
Notable works include: Beetlejuice (1988), Edward Scissorhands (1990) and Sleepy Hollow (1999).
Burton began his foray into directing by creating his own stop motion short films as a preteen. He has always been influenced by both Roald Dahl and Dr. Seuss, which can be seen in his work. In the early 80s he began working at Disney until he was fired for making Frankenweenie (1984) “too dark and scary for children to see.” He then went on to direct Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985), Beetlejuice and Batman (1989) for Warner Bros., until directing Edward Scissorhands for 20th Century Fox. He went back to Disney when he and Henry Selick founded Skellington Productions (formerly Selick/Burton Projects (1985) and Selick Projects (1988)) in 1992, which they then sold to Disney when they worked on The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and then James and the Giant Peach (1996). His other collaborations with Disney include: Alice in Wonderland (2010) & Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016), Frankenweenie (2012) (a stop motion animated version of his 1984 short) and Dumbo (2019). Yes, the live-action Dumbo. I have to admit, it wasn’t terrible.
Fun fact: Tim almost directed: The Fly (1986), Gremlins (1984), Spawn (1997), X-Men (2000), Drop Dead Fred (1991), Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994), Charlotte’s Web (2006), The Truman Show (1998), The Addams Family (1991) and Jurassic Park (1993). Now I can’t help but wonder what Tim Burton’s Drop Dead Fred would have been like. Feels like a missed opportunity.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) Review
This is a tricky one for me. I've always viewed it as a Christmas movie, seeing as Halloween only takes up the first 5 minutes. There's too much of a festive feeling for me to enjoy this at Halloween. Everything Wrong With & Honest Trailer Jack Skellington is getting tired with every Halloween being the … Continue reading The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) Review
