Notable works include: Carrie (1974), The Shining (1977) and It (1986)
King has become known as the “King of Horror”, although he has stated that he doesn’t consider himself exclusively a horror writer. The first movie adaptation of one of his novels was in fact his first novel, Carrie; it also holds the highest score on RT at 93%. This was preceded by The Shining, which Stephen isn’t a fan of for various reasons. For one, the book is very personal to him and the character’s alcoholism is something that mirrored his own at the time, which the movie doesn’t touch upon as much as the book.
Fun fact: Stephen only signs autographs at book signings. There was a rumour that it was due to superstition, but it’s actually because he hates the idolising of celebrities.
