Born Leigh Whannell in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Notable works include: Saw (2004), Dead Silence (2008) and Insidious (2010).
Whannell attended the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology where he studied Media Arts. This is where he met bestie and horror soulmate James. They made a short film version of Saw in 2003, which was picked up by Twisted Pictures for a feature length version. It was shot in 18 days on a small budget and premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. It was then released in theatres by Lionsgate where it grossed $103.9 million. Usually serving as a writer and producer, he directed his first movie in 2015 with the third Insidious instalment. This was followed up with Upgrade (2018) and The Invisible Man (2020).
Fun fact: Leigh is allergic to gluten.

Notable works include: Saw (2004), The Conjuring (2013) and Malignant (2021).
Wan moved to Perth, Western Australia, when he was 7 years old. Along with Whannell, he graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Arts in Media. In 2000 he directed his first feature length film, Stygian, which only premiered at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival and won the “Best Guerrilla Film” award. It has never been commercially released. After starting The Conjuring Universe in 2013, he has continued to play an active role, directing The Conjuring 2 (2016) and story writing/producing Annabelle: Creation (2017), The Nun (2018), Annabelle Comes Home (2019), The Curse of La Llorona (2019), The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) and The Nun 2 (2023). He also wrote and produced M3GAN (2022) and has seen success as part of the DCEU with the Aquaman movies.
Fun fact: James was both the first Asian director, and first Australian director to have a movie reach one billion dollars at the box office, which he has done twice; Furious 7 (2015) and Aquaman (2018).
